No. Placing trademark symbols ™ or ® next to generic terms does not somehow make them subject to protection.  “Brief Strategic Family Therapy” and its acronym “BSFT” are generic terms.  

Prior attempts to register “Brief Strategic Family Therapy” for trademark protection have failed miserably, and ultimately doomed the terms to the “supplemental register” of the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO).  The supplemental register is reserved especially for terms that are unsuitable for registration on the principal register.  Regardless, even though a generic term may be registered by the USPTO, if it is later found generic, it is ordered stricken from the USPTO registers.
